Record a Voice Note

Capture longer thoughts, conversations, and meetings in Monologue.

Voice Notes are for recordings you want to keep, revisit, and organize. Use regular dictation when you only want text inserted into the app in front of you.

Start a note

  1. Open Notes in Monologue.
  2. Start a new recording and choose the microphone you want to use.
  3. Pause or resume when needed, then finish the recording.
  4. Leave Monologue open while the recording uploads and processes.

On Mac, a note can include microphone audio and, when you grant the optional Screen Recording permission, system audio. Meeting detection can help you start a note when a supported call begins. Review the audio sources before recording anything important.

You can also create Voice Notes on iPhone. Available capture options vary by device and the permissions you have enabled.

If processing takes longer than expected

Keep the device online and avoid deleting the recording. If it remains stuck, open the note and use Report, or contact support with the recording time and device.
