Your first dictation

Learn the basic recording flow and a few habits that make dictation feel natural.

You do not need to speak in commands. Say the thought the way you would explain it to another person, and Monologue cleans up punctuation, casing, filler words, and false starts according to your selected mode.

On Mac

  1. Put the cursor in a text field.
  2. Hold your primary shortcut while you speak.
  3. Release it when you finish.
  4. Keep the target app active until Monologue pastes the result.

For longer thoughts, double-press your shortcut to record hands-free. Press it again to finish. Press your configured cancel shortcut if you want to discard the recording.

On iPhone or iPad

  1. Switch to the Monologue keyboard.
  2. Tap the microphone.
  3. Speak, then stop the recording.
  4. The text is inserted at the cursor.

Get a better result

  • Speak in complete thoughts, but do not worry about perfect phrasing.
  • Add names, acronyms, and product terms to your dictionary.
  • Select only the languages you actually speak, or choose Auto Detect.
  • Use modes and instructions when the output needs a particular tone or structure.

Your recent results remain available in History, so a failed paste does not mean the transcript is lost.
