Modes and custom instructions
Adapt Monologue's output to the app and kind of writing you are doing.
Modes tell Monologue how you want a dictation rewritten. You can keep a fast, lightly edited result for rough notes and use more structured instructions for messages, email, or other recurring work.
Choose a mode
Open Customization on Mac or Modes on iPhone and iPad. Select the mode that best matches the result you want before dictating.
Examples:
- A messaging mode can keep the result short and conversational.
- An email mode can turn fragments into a complete message.
- A fast or raw mode can preserve more of the original transcript.
Write useful instructions
Describe the output, not every transformation the model should perform. For example:
Write a concise project update. Keep product names exactly as dictated and use bullets only when I list three or more items.
Start with one clear instruction, test it in the app where you normally write, and add detail only when a recurring problem remains. Put names and terminology in the dictionary instead of repeating them in every mode.
